Paragraph of A CITY OF MOSQUITOES
We, the
dwellers of the old part of Dhaka
City , pay taxes regularly
and hope to lead a nuisanceless civil life. We have been observing with great
alarm that for the last three or four months mosquitoes have increased
recklessly in our area. It has become a common joke on everybody’s lips that Dhaka is not only a city of mosques but also of
mosquitoes. Every evening they begin to invade in our area in gigantic
battalion. As a result, the students cannot concentrate on their studies and
other people do not feel comfort while relaxing or engaged in talking each
other. One has to keep both hands always busy. Yet one cannot escape being
bitten and then one has to start scratching some part or parts of their body.
So no one can do anything with attention after sunset. It has really caused a
great menace in the area.
The
real remedy lies in regular and timely clearance of drains and removal of
refuse. But the scavengers take little care to clear the drains and remove
refuse timely and regularly. As a result, heaps of rubbish have accumulated and
rotten and the drains have remained full of dirty water in different parts of
the city. The breeding of mosquitoes goes on unhampered in such filthy and damp
environment. The irregularity of spraying insecticides encourages the breeding
of mosquitoes. So the mosquitoes have multiplied making the life of the citizen
unbearable.
So the
authorities concerned are requested to take effective measures immediately so
that the citizens may get rid of this terrible pest and lead a peaceful and
undisturbed life.
